I couldn't reopen the last thread (here) cause so much time passed but since then it looks like some samples for this Japanese band have surfaced so maybe they can fit into a sub this time. Apparently in total they released two albums in the 80's and something of a compilation of other material in 1991 (discography). Maybe more for symph then neo, but I'm not an expert. Also some info on proggnosis.

Apostolis knows all about this band - see his review of 'Castle In The Air' on RYM: http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/negasphere/castle_in_the_air/.
SILVER ELEPHANT(Kichijoji Tokyo Japan)produced an omnibus CD in 1993. Negasphere played this track called "KEEN". Guitars - Kohichi Hanada , Keyboards - Kaoru Kawasaki, Bass -Naoto Amazaki, Drums - Shiro Sugano. Composed by Kaoru Kawasaki. And some live vids: Edit: We've got the whole of the 'Castle In The Air ' album, plus the first two tracks of side one and the first track of side two from the 1985 'Disadvantage' album in these two posts (as well as the "Keen" track from the Silver Elephant 'Super Omnibus' sampler, which doesn't actually feature on any of their albums) - I reckon that should be enough for an eval. not all David, but they draw my interest back at the time by reputedly being among the most unknown Japanese Prog bands.Rare vinyls with no reissue was propably the reason vinyl collectors were chasing the band's efforts. My opinion was petty honest, and straight I think they were basically a Symphonic Rock band with a Fusion aura, good candidate for the symphonics, but I wouldn't mind to see them also in the Eclectic family.Neo it is not, that's for sure

Maybe Keishiro can add something about them? He will be able to understand any Japanese posts that may have been made regarding them - and which don't show up in an English language google search for the band.Iván will doubtless find this thread in due course, but if one of you guys were to drop a note in his team thread, then I'm sure he'd be on to it even quicker.

Yes, most Japanese bands are closer to Neo, this one sounds like T-Rat meets UK

They sound similar to Eloy at times. Very symphonic! I Like this music very much. I believe they are truly Symphonic.

Wrote the bio just now to add band and albums
Negasphere hail from Japan and were formed in 1977. Kawasaki Kaoru founded the group and played keyboards on both studio albums. In the initial stages of the band the sound was closer to Led Zeppelin rather than the Symphonic sound they would soon adopt, and Kaoru played bass also. Majima Hiroyoshi joined in 1981 giving the band a more definitive sound with his electric guitar playing. An instrumental album was released ?Seishinkougakuyo Henyo?, and a self titled cassette with music that was influenced by Atoll. There was a revolving door membership in the rhythm section, but finally stability came in 1982 with the addition of Tokutake Hiroshi on bass guitar, and later ex Mahojin member Sugano Shiro on electric drums. In 1983 they were joined by keyboardist Yata Toru and Negasphere hit the studios to release their debut album ?Castle In The Air? in 1984. The band played live with a number of vocalists but before recording the debut the latest vocalist retired leaving them without a singer for the album. Majima stepped in to sing and the band felt the sound was successful enough to maintain utilising the guitarist as lead vocalist for the year of 1984. The following year the band released their second album ?Disadvantage? and opted to add a new vocalist Hirata Shiro who would lend her clear vocals to a more refined Symphonic sound, and allow Majima to focus on lead guitar. A live album was released in 1991 with some recorded material from 1985 and 1986 ?Negasphere 1985-1986?, with different band members to fill in for retired members, such as Bassist Keiichi Tezuka, drummer Toshihiro Domen, guitarist Osamu Watanabe, and Pianist Toru Yata. 5 songs were recorded on 6th May 1985 and 3 were recorded on 5 October 1986 at Silver Elephant, Kichijoji. The band?s sound may appeal to those who enjoy music from early Genesis, UK, T-Rat or Eloy. |
