The release of the "stripped" version of Double Fantasy was something of a revelation in the way that Let it Be - Naked was.  The songs touched me with new meaning and I realized just how great this album is.  Lennon is so on top of his game here.  Comfortably understanding middle age rather than grasping at hipness.  Still directly emotional and biting when confronting demons in his words, passionate in singing to Yoko, in peace when singing to Sean.  Yet musically there are some very interesting sound and writing choices, it is not all as simple as the radio tracks might have led us to think.  For a reasonable price, you get the original remastered album version and a second disc of the "stripped down" tracks, which present the songs in a less encumbered, more intimate setting.  Not all would benefit from such treatment but Ono and Lennon both seem to.

More surprising to me is how well Ono's songs now play into the equation.  No longer do they annoy me, no longer do they need to be skipped.  Is that one of the points we reach in our lives as music fans?  Is there a certain point when Yoko's songs are suddenly appreciated?  LOL  I think I'm there.

Double Fantasy is an album I now believe rivals POB and Imagine as his finest works.  If you've been wondering whether this new release was worth it, I certainly think it is.  I got more from this album than music, I feel I got a shot of "life".  A kick in the pants from a middle aged Lennon reminding us to seize the day and appreciate.
