Steve Hackett (I think he was not mentioned in this thread).
Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso - btw one more RPI band showing their symphonic vein as an RPI trademark! |
I have listened to both of them though, i'd say Steve Hackett borrows pretty much everything on his music

I've heard rumours that the Internet isn't what it used to be.
Perhaps we need a recap of the OP to keep us on track:

Like what the title stated, i was wondering whether there are bands who re-arranged actual classical composition into a rather more proggy manner like Ekseption, Trace and The Pink Mice (Lucifer's Friend only with different monicker/side project).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

However, I've enjoyed reading all the suggestions so far in this thread and am looking forward to seeing even more suggestions. Even if some of the music discussed isn't prog, or the bands just pastiche classical music themes, or...
I rather suspect the list of bands that are specifically prog and also mostly play arrangements of classical music would not be a long one, unfortunately.
Now I'm off to listen to my Apollo 100 CD - have always loved them.

Well, I do, for one and expect it is good practice (I'd also only just edited my original message as per the red text above).
I take it for granted that a discussion such as this can wander away from the original question or away from the request that was in the very first post of the forum thread...
I have found all the replies in this thread so far interesting and I share your interest in arrangements of classical music, albeit also outside the world of prog, hence my interest too.

I for one have never knew that someone also share the interest of classical arrangements played on different styles too , it is quite rare nowadays to find such wondrous music transformed into something the latter

Well, there you go! Bound to find a few of us here around Prog Archives I guess. My interest in Prog did start out around 1980 as an interest in Sky and evolved from there - I wanted to find more instrumental bands that did what Sky did, and found there wasn't really any exactly like them - but then I found Camel and then Yes and Focus and so on into prog from there. Wish I had more bands to suggest to you though, apart from the ones already mentioned.

My interest towards Queen has led my mentor to introduce me to such bands as ELP, Triumvirat, etc. I am now a Progressive Rock keyboardist that is currently playing on 2 bands

One more RPI band playing classical music:
Le Orme features in their second album L'Aurora Delle Orme a beautiful version (played on organ) of the first movement of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major (BWV 1048). Also in the same album there is an interesting version of Mozart's Blue Rondo A La Turka.

^Nice to see mention of Pell Mell. Their debut album Marburg has a nice version of Smetana's The Moldau led by their brilliant violinist Thomas Schmidt.

Pell Mell is the most brilliant band that i have ever known | Hey, that is awesome. I am looking for their music after Marburg. Marburg I discovered around 1990 in a used record store, and have loved it ever since.

Hi Doug! You must find "Rhapsody" and "Only a Star", both excellent albums with liberal borrowings of the classics and original music that sounds like it borrowed from the classics. If you liked (past tense perhaps due to overplay) QUEEN's "Bohemian Rhapsody", you will love those two albums
