British pagan black metal somewhat in the same vein as Blut Aus Nord's Ultima Thulée and Memoria Vetusta, if a bit more polished. (the odd band name is an old English name for the month of October) |

And so it appears that Rosetta has a new record out. I had no idea they still were active until informed of that, since the whole "post-metal" movement doesn't really seem to be a thing any longer. |

Short but varied album by the facepalmingly prolific Japanese noisemongers Boris. Spans the whole gamut from space doom in the vein of early Earth over fast psych-garage-punk somewhere between Hendrix and The Stooges to longer slow-burn epics with lots of dynamic.

Always found there to be something pretty damn classy about Mercyful Fate's treatment of Satanic subject matter that I've rarely heard in not just other of their generation's metal groups but also most of the newer black metal groups. Basically, in film it reminds me of Hammer horror a la The Devil Rides Out whereas the others are more like 1970s/1980s low-budget weirdo exploitation or exceptionally grotesque German Expressionism. |
