THE RESIDENTS - "13th Anniversary Show Live in Tokyo" (1986)

A great live overview of their first decade plus.  Lots of Snakefinger on this one.
Snakefinger died of a heart attack not long after this show. :(

^How are you doing today, Steve? I hope you're over the Zappa blues.

Does anyone know if similar compilations exist for other specific "movements" in music history? I've seen several for regional punk scenes in the early 1980s, if nowhere as extensive... wouldn't be surprised if one existed for the NWoBHM. (I remember coming across one on YouTube but maybe it was just a fan compilation)

I have this, a 4 disc box set documenting the early British punk scene

Unfortunately, most of those bands just weren't very good, so I don't get a lot of plays out of it.

I've seen reviews for similar punk compilations, also for various US cities and for Japan, milling around RateYourMusic. Really seems like the subculture that's most receptive to that kind of anthologizing. Similar ones supposedly also exist for the mid-1970s disco explosion, but that's not a genre I'm that much into.

It's insane how many there were of these psychedelic garage bands, and how different they were along regional scene lines - what with that being the earliest mass media era. Apparently there's way more compilations of this particular scene than just Nuggets' 4 volumes.
