I predict a new album with Gabriel and Hackett. A beautfully played and produced sonic soundscape with dreamlike lyrical imagery.

Ok, maybe not. Probably an overpriced box set of everything they've ever done - re re re mastered - including recordings of Spinal Tap style studio disagreements and punch ups.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Someone in the know from another site says it's just a compilation announcement involving all the members of the band to be released and coincide with the BBC Doc on the group in September. No reunion---no candy floss, toffee apples no clowns---except from the management that think we need re-re released material in another form.

Unless this compilation has "The Movement" on it, or something as interesting all I can say is
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

Another compilation would be a HUGE middle finger to fans. That being said, im still cautiously optimistic for this announcement. The logo reminds me of the self titled 1983 album (a very good album), so if there is a new album, it will most likely be Collins, Banks, and Rutherford. And who knows, maybe Hackett will be in the lineup.

Oh goody, the band is taking the road of their first manager, 'let's keep repackaging stuff and try to sell it again'.  I'm really hoping this isn't the case.

That's what I get from it too.

I probably wouldn't be able to afford tickets anyway...

No sh*t .

Trans-Siberian Orchestra is playing in Toronto in December. Ticket Prices range from $77 to $619.  Yes that's correct, $619 freakin' bucks to see a concert. Concerts, like sporting events are moving closer and closer to the domain of the rich. I appreciate the fact that these artists no longer really 'make money' with CD sales and are more or less controlled by corporate interests at just about every level, but I would love to see a classic prog artist rebel and do a series of smaller hall concerts on their own like in the good 'ol days. Low tech staging with top level playing. Hell, I'll even help care the gear in. Now that's something to crowd source.
Thank you for supporting independently produced music

I'd love to think it was a new studio album with a Hackett appearance, but I really don't think Gabriel would be involved. Although the guy is good to still be involved with discussing the band and seems to be on good terms with the others, he really left Genesis behind sooooo long ago.

But a new studio album with Phil, Mike and Tony doesn't seem that unrealistic....so many other `oldies' acts are putting out new albums, why should Genesis be any different? Just as long as it's not a freaking covers album, all good!

To expect a new album may seem like wishful thinking. However, Pink Floyd is releasing a new album, and I would have thought that to be even less likely; and King Crimson has reformed. On the other hand, after Yes's last album, I try to keep my expectations in check, so as not to be disapointed.

The only Genesis news I'd like to hear is the return of Collins on drums , Gabriel on vocals, and Hackett on guitar.

Given their second-most recent facebook announcement in June about an upcoming BBC documentary, I would suspect that the new announcement is merely a release date or a trailer or something like that.

And they show a photo of the band from forty years ago, yet only list the last three members as active. Disingenuous.

Maybe a new album heavily influenced by Fish-era Marillion, IQ, The Watch, Citizen Cain and Big Big Train.

You would think a thread called 'Genesis News' would be posted in prog news right? Nah....so I moved it.

And...........it's a compilation release. Dammit.

"Spanning an incredible 42 years, ‘R-Kive’ is a new 3-CD, 37-track set that documents the band’s history in the most comprehensive way yet. Compiled by the band themselves via a process of collaboration and elimination, ‘R-Kive’ takes an in-depth, chronological journey through the catalogue and - for the first time ever for a Genesis collection - includes three personally chosen selections from the solo careers of Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, and Mike Rutherford / Mike + The Mechanics."
