Is that all there is? More than ever I feel tempted to give a one star rating in advance (of course accompanied by a blind (p)review to put in some more weight): Poor, only for completionists.

I quit Disapprove.

Regarding that new logo, if they release a new album the cover art should show Cynthia with a croquet mallet ready to hit on those scrambled letters...

We've always known that the record exec definition of the phrase "Exciting News" isn't the same as the one we use in the real world.
What?

It's just the ordinary 'watering-down' of the language - be that the English or the Danish. Believe you me, we get it here too. It's everywhere I look. It's why words like 'super' and 'extra-ordinary' are flung around so often.

Then again, 'Mildly Interesting Genesis News' isn't exactly going to shake your tree...

And...........it's a compilation release. Dammit.

"Spanning an incredible 42 years, ‘R-Kive’ is a new 3-CD, 37-track set that documents the band’s history in the most comprehensive way yet. Compiled by the band themselves via a process of collaboration and elimination, ‘R-Kive’ takes an in-depth, chronological journey through the catalogue and - for the first time ever for a Genesis collection - includes three personally chosen selections from the solo careers of Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, and Mike Rutherford / Mike + The Mechanics."

Damnit Unhappy.

Dammit . . .

A 37 track 3 disc  album that covers their whole career? Where have I heard that before...oh yes the Platinum Collection! Except that has 40 songs to cover their career including all their hits and main Prog epics.

So what's the difference? The new one contains the pop numbers of the band's solo stuff...and that's it.

No thanks. If you want a in depth best of Genesis album then R-Kive is not it. So its really a waste of everyone's time.Angry

The fans of their Prog period already have all their discography so will not buy it. So only their Pop fans will buy it, who can not stand the Prog songs and will never play them. I don't know why they insist in putting out a product that will please nobody...

BOOO !!! They announced exciting news. And a new compilation is not exciting news. It's torture to all Genesis fans who bought all the albums. Phil Collins recently announced that he would back on stage. Sure those are very small performances compared to his heyday, but he's a little active. As for the other members, they are all active in their own rights. Peter Gabriel's voice is still strong, Steve Hackett is doing a tour honouring Genesis, Tony Banks is doing classical stuff and Mike is with Mike and the Mechanics. Why not doing something while they are all still alive. Jesus Christ.

Even though no one on this forum has any reason to pick up this release, in my younger years I've discovered bands because of some re-hashed  re-issues or compilations. So, I can only hope that this will be the opportunity for some quirky 15 year old to stumble across some amazing sh*t he would otherwise never even hear about.
