New CD from former Kultivator members Ingemo Rylander and Johan Hedrén. No idea about which subgenre this could be.

The 'Breaking The Circles For A While' album is released on the Papaver label (& sold via Record Heaven): http://www.recordheaven.net/index.cfm?iID=123016, from where this description comes:
"With roots in internationally highly acclaimed bands like KULTIVATOR and UR KAOS, Ingemo Rylander and Johan Hedren invites you toa dreamy journey for the open minded. A rocking groove in the bottom with swirling rhythmes from a rich melodic musical trip created by vocals, flutes, keyboards, darbouka, harp, saz, wavedrum and other odd instruments. Digipack edition." 1. Breaking The Circles 2. In The Shadows 3. Every Daybreak 4. The Day 5. Kindly Winds 6. Politics And Dreams 7. Connections 8. I Use To Forget 9. Hear My Voice 10. Gloomy Silvermight 11. All Nights 12. Water Flowing Well, Kultivator are in Eclectic Prog and UR Kaos in RIO/Avant, but this doesn't really sound like either from the tracks I listened to. Only four of the 12 tracks are actually available for streaming on the band's website, but feature etheral female vocals and not a trace of anything 'heavy'. Sounds like a possible Prog Folk candidate to me from the limited samples available at the moment...but I think more will definitely be needed before a sub for evaluation can finally be decided upon. ![]() This is from the band's website: http://www.nomadsofhope.net/about: "Ingemo and Johan met already 1978 in local experimental constellations and eventually Kultivator. While raising two children a number of small projects took place: theatre music, the Anna Gram compilation and music for certain events.
Ingemo engaged in medieval music in different constellation and Johan turned to improvised rock in Ur Kaos. During the years we collected more or less fragmentary ideas of songs, which eventually gave birth to Nomads of Hope. This history explains the mixture of progressive rock, world music, folk music, ancient music and grunge. During the years we followed the temptations to explore new instruments. And nowadays we play and improvise on pianos, synthesizers, guitars, bass, recorders, tinwistles, saz, dulcimer, harps, wavedrum, darbouka and percussion." We await further comment....![]() Edited by yam yam - August 23 2014 at 09:28 |

Thanks for the PM yam yam, I missed this thread when it first posted.
Seems like we should consider these guys for Prog Folk. The instrumentation and overall musical vibe is folk-based, and they definitely have progressive cred. I'll add them to the list and get Ken's feedback. Our backlog is pretty short right now so hopefully this won't take long. |

Thanks a lot!
Good to be among the bands here. Also interesting to be categorized, and we feel quite comfortable with "folk" (even though that zeuhl, art punk, Björk, RIO, world music, minimalism, N. Cave, L. Anderson, R. Fripp, Slapp Happy ..., ... have been quite inspiring throughout the years). Cheers! |
