Use a semicolon when you have two complete sentences and the second clarifies the first.  For example:

Being a member of Yes does not mean you can't be in other bands; Steve Howe has played in both Yes and Asia.

In addition to the uses already mentioned, a semicolon ~ and I'm talking writer's English, not academia ~  may also delineate between parts of a long sentence where commas are already being used frequently, i.e.:   "We saw jugglers, clowns, and magicians; Swilled beer and gobbled sausage by the beach; Watched the crabbers haul in their morning's catch of prawns, crayfish, and mussels; And generally had a very good time".

It's a pause longer than a comma but shorter than a full-stop; it's like a dotted rest in music

What?

I often use semi-colons in sentences; therefore, I must not be Kurt Vonnegut.

Semicolon: the one to use when you're baking half a loaf. No need for the full kahuna.

Semicolon is of extream value to me. Just not now.

I've always looked at the semicolon as a bridge to connect complete sentences when you don't want them to end; therefore, I could go on and on about the value of this little nugget.

Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?
