I've only heard Whiter Shade once or twice, but that's enough that I like Night's in White Satin much better.

Wow! Two great songs. So far I'm baffled. I can't decide how many coin tosses I should base my vote on.

Justin Hayward's heavenly vocals just wins out for me over the organ classic. Both are wonderful though.

I like both a lot, but Nights in White Satin gets my vote, but just by a hair.

The Moodies for me as well.  Whiter Shade of Pale is also a great song.

Both songs a bit old sounding for me. 1967 music started to sound interesting with bands like Cream, Hendrix and The doors but I don't like much else from that year

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

The Moody Blues, Nights in White Satin.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

"Nights ...". Never really could get into "A Whiter Shade of Pale". Maybe I've heard the famous chord progression too many times as a kid or I just don't like the chords, or I just don't like the chords played on the organ, or I just don't like Brooker's voice. I guess there are a number of factors in this equation. And the way "Nights ..." was produced - very impressive.

'Satin was key in helping to set the stage for all things prog. 'Pale could be just another wedding song.
