I like em both although the chorus on Satin can get a little grating to these ears. The love you part always makes me cringe a little.
Voted for Pale. Great song that reminds me of a thousand different childhood memories and distant scenes from movies.

I like Nights a lot, but I remember being a kid in '67 and hearing AWSOP every time I turned on the radio or jumped into a car.  I think it was the 1st non-Beatles or Stones song I really went nuts over LOL

Both bands did better work but their popularity says otherwise.

Play them both one after another. Which one comes first doesn't matter. This is the most solid justifiable tie I recall seeing. No vote from me.

I like both songs and both bands. The Moodies came first for me and are more prog. Procol's much newer and fresher to me. A trickier poll - for me - would be having to choose between Justin Hayward and Gary Brooker.

Going to have to say a tie here. It'd be too unfair to choose one band over the other in this case.

Good poll. Two songs that helped change the course of popular music.

(I voted PH)

Hayward has a wonderful voice, is a solid songwriter and adequate guitarist. The other members of the Moodies I've just never warmed too. Procol Harum on the other hand has a great front man in Brooker as well as some other fine musicians.

Easy call - Nights in white satin. Curiously for myself enough, I have always found "Je t'aime moi non plus" (from Emmanuelle movie) pretty much evoking of "Whiter shade of pale" to some extend

That's a close one for me.  I went for Whiter Shade because I like the LSD aspect to it.

Bit too dated and boring both of them
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Love them both but I have to go with the Moodies as sentimental favorite. They were my first taste of what later became known as Prog. Sort of like you never forget your first love.
