It's been a long time without Novalis topics in PA. So, vote for the album you like most.

It's been a LONG TIME since I've listened to Novalis, so I won't vote till I'm certain.

I will go with Sommerabend, although I like most of their catalog up to and including Augenblicke. But Sommerabend was their prog masterpiece I would say.
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

Summerabend over the self-titled album. I love this band, such beautiful and romantic symphonic music.

I think, because of the lack of activity on this thread, that it goes to show
that some bands are a little more "refined" then the run of the mill prog bands.
It all depends on taste, of course, so I'm not feeling proud or arrogant,
but something about this band is a little more subtle.
It doesn't fall into the rougher/druggie Krautrock focus, nor does it wander
into the folk/celtic terrority, two areas that I think draw more fans.  It's also
not metal oriented, but it does have some strong guitar work. I like to think
that bands like this will slowly tower over some bands in the next few decades,
but I could very well be wrong.   Magellan I think could be another band
like this, but I haven't been all that drawn to them to hear a lot of their work.

I'm also surprised with the few votes in this thread about the great Novalis, brainstormer. They are not in the first line of the 70's prog bands, but their discography contain a lot of wonderful music. In Germany Novalis were one of the most popular prog bands. I hope you're right and in the next years more progheads appreciate their fine work.
In any case, my vote goes to Novalis over Sommerabend.

Undoubtedly "Sommerabend".  I recently played the whole of the title track on my radio programme!

I only have a few Novalis LP's - my fave is the S/T 2nd album. I love Veilliecht Bist Du Ein Clown a lot too. Flossenengel has its moments, Brandung too. Sommerabend is very nice, though Bassist Heino Schunzel sings somewhat flat when he takes to the mic (Wunderschatze)....
