Sad news: Glenn Cornick, the bass player in JETHRO TULL's earlie albums, passed away on August 28th. He was 67 years old.

Thank you for everything, especially those amazing bass grooves on Living in the past, Bourée and Nothing is easy.

This comes as a big surprise because in a relatively recent video Glenn seemed so youthful. Anderson himself commented on how he was the only member of the original band who looked basically the same. His Website was a treasure trove of Tull memorabilia. Glenn liked the groupies and partying and so didn't fit into the Jethro Tull culture and was booted out, but there was nothing wrong with his bass playing. Stand Up is a classic of straight-ahead rock with some folk, jazz, and blues mixed in and an incredibly tight studio performance by all, including Glenn; one of Tull's most perfect albums in my opinion.

It is with great sadness that we learned today of the passing of Glenn Cornick, bass player with Jethro Tull from the band’s inception 1968 until 1970. Of course, he had also played with the John Evan Band for the year during 1967 and so his contribution to the geographical transition from Blackpool to London and into the professional music scene was considerable.

Glenn was a man of great bonhomie and ready to befriend anyone – especially fellow musicians. Always cheerful, he brought to the early stage performances of Tull a lively bravado both as a personality and a musician.

His background in the beat groups of the North of England and his broad knowledge of music were always helpful in establishing the arrangements of the early Tull.

During the many years since then, Glenn continued to play in various bands and was a frequent guest at Tull fan conventions where he would join in with gusto to rekindle the musical moments of the early repertoire.

We will miss him hugely and our condolences go to his wife Bridgette and children.

Glenn Cornick: musician. April 23rd 1947 – August 29th 2014.

Sad news.

Closing my dream inside this paperbag
Thought I saw angels, but I could have been wrong
Search in my case; can't find what they're looking for
Waving me through, to cry you a song

I'll be revisiting my old Tull albums with Glenn and paying more attention to his bass contributions. Big smile

The Jethro Tull website eulogy is very nice:

Glenn was a huge fan of American & Canadian ice hockey, I used to email with him a bit about this!  We lamented the "good old days" of the classic "Original Six" teams, he chaffed that states with no ice like Texas, California etc. now had expansion hockey teams!!  RIP Glenn, you were a great guy!

Check out his other projects, Wild Turkey and Paris, for some really great music!

The Original Six era of the National Hockey League (NHL) began in 1942 with the demise of the Brooklyn Americans, reducing the league to six teams: Boston Bruins, Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Toronto Maple Leafs. This structure remained stable for a quarter century; the era ended in 1967 when the NHL doubled in size adding six expansion teams.

Rest in peace. Unhappy Really liked his bass playing. Especially on Stand Up. Bowdown
When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

This is spooky. I was thinking of Glenn Cornick on the weekend as I voted in the poll of Jack Bruce vs John Entwhistle and immediately thought of Glenn. Why? Well it's a long story......here how it goes........

I put up for sale on eBay an original Australian glossy, non gatefold cover of Tull's 1969 album Stand Up, which in a nutshell was a fairly rare album. I had one bidder who won; the winner's email address came up as one [email protected] asked the obvious question via email "Your pulling my leg aren't you?" No, he wasn't ...... it was in fact THE Glenn Cornick.

I then asked him if he didn't mind me asking him a few questions. Which he obligingly did. One of those questions was "who was your greatest influence(s) in regards to bass playing". He came back with "The Ox (I.e. John Entwhistle) and McCartney (esp. 1966-1967 era).

I was reassured that it was THE Glenn Cornick when my Aussie Stand Up album that I sold him (for
less than AUD$5 BTW) subsequently appeared on his website.

This is a very sad day as now the original Jethro Tull line-up cannot perform together, ever again. I was hoping that they would on the 50th anniversary in 2018.

Glenn was a master craftsman. Listen to the intro to Living In The Past and the bass solo on Bouree to name a few.

He was a very affable guy and a brilliant musician too boot.

A very sad day indeed.

Nice story, Mr. Glibb! Glenn Cornick was among my favorite Tull bassists. Always sad to see a good player and all-around great guy go. Time to play Stand-Up in memorium, maybe This Was. Heck, I'll listen to all of the albums he did with Tull. Now there are two great Tull bassists gone to the great gig in the sky.
