Good though the Opeth and Transatlantic albums are, they cannot get near The Road of Bones.
I wasn't sure when I first heard it, but it gains in magnificence every time I listen to it. The best album for many years.

Logos and IQ on top of the heap.

I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

I have four of those but only spent time with IQ and LOGOS, both are incredible. So not fair to vote.

Of the discs I have listened to, Pale Communion is an easy pick. Most disappointing to me thus far this year is a toss up between Anathema and Gazpacho. Both feel like rehashes of previous work. IQ, good disc. Runs a bit long to my taste and neo-prog is not my favorite sub genre...

Opeth or Swans, I feel bad voting against either one of them, no vote for now.

Only have heard four, Opeth and IQ are easily the best of those.
Vote for Opeth. |

Only heard Transatlantic, so I'll hold off on voting until I hear more.

For me personally, the Logos album has been far ahead of just about every other of these titles, so that will get my vote. But damn that IQ one is a knockout, I have no doubt it will end up being considered THE album of the year.
Out of this list that I have, the Transatlantic has been the tired dud of the year (without actually being a terrible album), and the latest Opeth more or less sounded exactly like I expected it to, so no real surprises at all. Well played and sounds nice though, but just the band playing to their already proven strengths? Edited by Aussie-Byrd-Brother - September 02 2014 at 09:34 |

IQ, The Road of Bones. |
