I listened to Tarkus (just that track) on the way to pick up a pizza last night. Really nice song and it's too bad they didn't do more long pieces like that and leave all those short mediocre (and silly ones..) songs off their albums.
I have never understood why they felt the need to put those 'beer hall' type tracks on their albums which only ruin the flow of otherwise great recordings. They should have saved all those and did an album of just short oddball tracks for the hardcore fans.

io have a thought that maybe Emerson sometimes like to pour out his urge to make Elton John like musik where melodic piano were in the forfront, but we all know that is harder then just be a virotus piano player to manage, you also has to be able to create layers which Elton can do,.

Tarkus, especially live (although the opening of the studio version is very thrilling).

Tarkus is the best track on Tarkus although it's very messy, where Supper's Ready is one of my least favorite tracks on Foxtrot (sounds a bit like Randy Newman wrote a prog epic, and it doesn't keep my attention at all). I'll go for Tarkus, even though I generally prefer Genesis and Foxtrot to ELP and Tarkus.

^ I think I know the analogy you'd make about "Supper's", Micky:

That "Supper's" is an unhappily married couple sitting in bed together, ignoring each other and reading boring books.
