Two of the most well-liked solo albums of the classic era of symphonic prog. Let's hear it.

Went with Wives.

I think it's more of a complete album and I listen to it more than Voyage.

Although I love 'A Tower Struck Down' from voyage.

Great stuff!

I haven't got many Wakeman solo albums, I've heard that 'No Earthly Connection' is his best.

Need to check that out..

I really like Voyage, but Six Wives is Rick Wakeman's masterpiece. I don't like a lot of his other stuff much, but I bought the album on the day it was released and it has always blown me away. It's a complete, themed album, even if there are no lyrics.

"Voyage" is an easy choice for me, but I love "Six Wives" as well.

Both are classics but 6 Wives provided a massive reaction, a keyboard festival of the very highest order. Timeless monument .

I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

I love 'Acolyte but am left cold by 'Wives. Sure, Bruford and Squire, among others, were on the latter, but the whole thing doesn't sound cohesive enough to reflect their talents. Hackett's first solo venture had two of his Genesis colleagues adding support throughout, so it comes off as solid and conceptually more fulfilling.

I love both--and did from the moment each was released. Voted Acolyte cuz it has remained more of a favorite over the years. Six Wives still wows me when I listen to it but I don't find myself feeling the urge to return to it very often.

Are you a fan of concept instrumental albums or is it just a coincicence that your also a massive Snow Goose fan? By the way I broke out that Camel album the other day and i'm going to check into the concept and listen to it to see if my opinion will change.

Voyage, easily.

Voyage is great, and I really love Shadow of the Hierophant. But 6 Wives is just perfect, one of the best albums in prog, so I go with that one.

Actually, I was rather disapointed with "No Earthly Connection"... it's got one suposedly "epic" long song, but it was too disjointed and didn't work well as a single piece. It's got the song "The Prisoner", which I like very much, and some melodies on the main No Earthly Connection are really good, but the lack of cohesion don't let me enjoy them so well. I much prefer the shortened version Wakeman played on the "Out of the Blue" live album... there he just nailed down the best parts of the album perfectly and make those wondeful melodies much more enjoyable. As for Wakeman's best albums, I would say they are Six Wives itself and the King Arthur album. Also, "Out There", which features the same linup from the Out of the Blue live album I just wrote about. And then, Criminal Record too. And last of his great albums for me would be Journey to the Center of the Earth.
