This is the most overrated album, not the worst,  Most of these are still pretty good.

Yes:  I can't choose.  It has to be either Tales or Relayer, though.
Genesis:  Again, a very tough choice.  Is it Lamb or is it Selling England?
King Crimson::  Islands, maybe?  The second half is sublime, the first half is crap.
Emerson Lake and Palmer:  The first selftitled album.  Easily.
Jethro Tull:  Songs from the Wood, anyone?
Pink Floyd:  Another easy one.  Wish You Were Here!

Whenever anyone uses the word 'overrated' or even 'underrated' in a thread then that is what the discussion will be about.

'specially round these parts...

It would pain me to part with most of these, but in keeping with the thread topic:

Pink Floyd - Meddle
Emerson Lake and Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery
King Crimson - Red
Jethro Tull - Aqualung

and I'm going to cop out with:

Genesis - From Genesis to Revelation
Yes - Time and a Word

A ridiculous idea for a thread, who could do such a thing.

ABB, you'd dump BSS really?  Surely you can find something worse than that from ELP's pantheon?

There's plenty worse, but this is about overrated albums.  Love Beach (for example) isn't highly rated, and so it isn't overrated.  BSS is BS

Roj, I don't mind BSS, but as I recently mentioned on another thread (forget which exact one), I really can't stomach the carnival related lyrics on the `Karn Evil 9' epic...I honestly don't know why it gets under my skin so much...

Apart from that, out of the self-titled, `Tarkus' and `Trilogy', `BSS' is the one I listen to the least. Still a good album, but the one I suppose I rate the lowest of that set?

OK I'll play.

"overrated" being a relative term.  I'm not "hating" on any of these.

Yes - Fragile  (great moments but too fragmentary to be a stone cold classic)

ELP - Trilogy  (just ok)

Genesis - Nursery Cryme (after I got tired of Musical Box, and prefer the live version of Hogweed, not much reason to put this on anymore)

Pink Floyd - Division Bell maybe?  (I don't think it's any better than Momentary Lapse, but it seems to carry a much higher level of respect among most folks)

Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick (I'm just not nuts about most of the musical themes on this.  Like, yes.  Like a lot, yes.  But not enough for it to be top 5 all time.)

King Crimson - In the Court.... (not really overrated, it's a hugely important album.  But I can't listen to it any more, especially the title track).

From all outward appearances, not an overrated album in the bunch.

Yes - Relayer
ELP - Tarkus
Genesis - A Trick of the Tail
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Jethro Tull - War Child
King Crimson - Larks Tongues

But I don't dislike any of them (except Relayer which I really don't like at all)

in b4 someone complains about the word 'overrated'

here are some albums I like but don't enjoy as much as the community here seems to:
Genesis - Nursery Cryme
Pink Floyd - Animals
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
King Crimson - Lizard
Yes - The Yes Album
Van Der Graaf Generator - Still Life (this one hurts to say)

Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (it's still great though)
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (due to unfamiliarity, only heard the whole goddamn thing once, i mean sheesh)
King Crimson - Red (AS OF f**kING LATE, IM NOT SO SURE YET)

that is all from me for now

I disagree with the OP. Here are mine:

YES- none for me. I like them all.
Genesis- Lamb but I still like it.
Jethro Tull- heavy horses maybe
ELP- Brain salad surgery. I like it but it is very repetitious in places.
Pink Floyd- Dark side of the moon
King Crimson- ITCOTCK moonchild goes in one ear and out the other but I like much of it.

Bonus:

Gentle Giant- In a glass house. It's good but I could never understand all the hype.
