The official version in IQ's site just states that after Frequency John Jowitt, Mark Westworth and Andy Edwards all 'decided to leave the band'.

Regarding John, I never had the impression of frictions between him and Nichols and Holmes, but after having been so many years in the band, having already achieved a highly respected status and having also participated in numerous other projects, I could understand if his reasons were simply that he felt the IQ path a bit exhausted and he just wanted to try other things.

As for Westworth and Edwards it's a bit more difficult to understand that they might leave totally voluntarily, two young musicians for whom joining a top band like IQ should be like a dream come true and offer them a solid career and massive exposure (relatively of course, within the Prog community) for the coming years. Why should they leave so quickly such a great opportunity?

Does anybody know the hidden truth behind all these events? Did Jowitt have issues with Nichols and Holmes? Were Nichols and Holmes not satisfied with Westworth and Edwards? Was there already some 'conspiracy' going on between Nichols and Holmes to bring back Cook and Esau so they forced them out?

What happens behind closed doors is often best left there.

Musicians are human too. My only exposure to Andy's drumming is on Magenta's album 'The Twenty-Seven Club' and what he does on that BRILLIANT album is PHENOMENAL !! As for Jowitt, he's jumped ship back to Arena.
All these bands, IQ too, are tantamount to modern Prog music.
What goes on 'internally' within bands is just personal preference, timing and maybe chemistry. I don't think that it's always down to a 'clash of egos' , though I may be wrong.....
Oh, I'm waiting on the triple vinyl release of Road Of Bones, haven't heard a note of it, but I'm soooo excited to see Esau back on bass !!! At the end of the day, no harm done as to the choice of the musicians....
