Allright, pretty simple. I've gathered 10 artworks that I really dig from various artists. Some of em beautiful other perhaps not so much...relying more on phallus related objects or kitsch. I know I tend to make these polls with 25 options, but I am lazy and I have several bees in my pockets. So without further ado, which one tickles your fancy the most? |

I hardly know any of these but I like the cover of elephant9 - Atlantis.
The question is..... would I like the music? |

elephant9 are very good! Imagine ELP on drugs and you're not that far off. Oh and judging by your tastes, then I'd like to think that Barrett Elmore would be to right up your alley. Kinda like a breezy psychedelic take on Phideaux with female vocals. Here's a short tune called The Creek, if you're interested As for the others: John Martyn's 70s output is highly recommendable. I would've thought you knew of him. Ulver/Sun O))) is probably most for the current drone afficionados - as Wakhevitch albums mostly seduce people with severe mental problems. Let's Start though is probably one of his easiest albums to get into. That's saying a lot actually Btw this poll only concerns itself with the cover arts - the music is second fiddle. Just to make things a little clearer (not usually my forté). Edited by Guldbamsen - September 16 2014 at 09:44 |

The Barrett Elmore cover is the only one I really like with its fish-eyed lens effect. Those of Popul Vuh and Causa Sui are decent.

The Woodlands one is nice....can't say the others do much for me.

Igor Wakhevitch - "Let's Start" has a remarkably awful design. My god look at those fonts.
Anyone with Photoshop of Gimp could throw something like that Barrett Elmore cover together in a few minutes (but its still a nice picture). Elephant9 - Atlantis isn't a disaster but looks a little random and communicates something the band is not. There's too much stuff on the Causa Sui which makes it look like a concert poster or something. Aguirre is ok but bandame and title looks kinda thrown on top of a nice image. I would prefer it to be better integrated. John Martyn and Los Jaivas are both kitsch but not without charm. Miles, Ulver and Tangerine Dream are the winners imo. Fits the music well and probably makes their potential audience curious in the right way.

I guess I got told. Nah I'm only kidding. I agree with most of what you say, although I love them for the exact same reasons. Tempted to vote for the Miles cover as well. Damn he had some brilliant ones during the 60s and 70s. The live ones from his fusion period are absolutely stunning (Agharta, Live-Evil, Pangaea) |

You or someone else should do more of these cover art polls, at least with these you don't need to know every prog album ever

Possibly the best thread title ever, but I can't say I'm particularly keen on any those, except perhaps elephant9.

I promise I'll cater to a wider audience the next time around. Leave stuff like
and out of the equation.

Pretty woodlands always appeal to me. After that, I like John Martyn's even though I suspect it didn't work quite the way people wanted it to. The rest don't do much for me.

I'm usually a sucker for those Rune Gramophone record covers but that Barrett Elmore - Woodlands is wonderful.
Sad to see the phallus rock losing though! |
