Hot Rats was/is a hell of an album for 1969.

Hot Rats.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

Waka Jawaka and The Grand Wazoo cannot be separated, modern big band jazz that has sunshine in it's soul..... Hot Rats for Peaches alone... Burnt Weeny Sandwich for its subversion... Apostrophe for the title track jam (there has to be a longer edit of this,please.... ) oh. Choose 1. Uncle Meat For Dog Breath. Never has something that is so vile sounded so beautiful. Sorry hound fans. Choosing one gives me trouble every day.... ;)

hHi there Kati !!! Just spun Waka/Jawaka and Joe's Garage (Vol. 1) and love the jammy nature of the former, and the meticulously arranged concept of the latter. Zappa was a most wonderful eccentric.
Uncle Meat is, however, my favourite of the lot,.......

Tom yay hello Zappa - Waka Jawaka , I dislike that track very much, it's a bad example too to convince anyone to like avant garde jazz, while it's not it's bah awful bah to me    sorry. xxx

^ I see where you're coming from .........
Loose jam-style isn't everyone's cup of tea. I do dig this sort of approach.
Joe's Garage, though lyrically crass (it's one thing to think these things but to convey them out aloud........), has some wonderful complexities and really, the sense of Zappa humour should rub off on any passionate Prog lover........

Probably   'Hot Rats'......first one that I really got into on a musical level. Love his guitar work and compositions on that but he has several others that are excellent.

Kati, I understood from the OP that we were voting for albums up to 1974. If we go beyond that my vote becomes an easy one for me with Shut Up N Play Yer Guitar. I love Joe's Garage too, though.

Gave my vote to Absolutely Free because its great fun and I felt sorry for it. + even if its Zappa and 1967 its got that perfect 7 minute long Canterbury-tune which might be my favorite compostion of his.

It's amazing how Apostrophe is getting slimed here. A generally landmark album for its day.
