Topic: What happened to Supertramp? Posted: October 11 2014 at 21:03 |
am i the only one who is raising this question because i feel like i am okay, Hodgson is off touring like there's no tomorrow i get it; i mean the band Supertramp right now. is there a break/hiatus that is occurring that wasn't announced publicly or are they done for good. i had this thought for a long while now and didn't speak of it until now? what's happening? i mean, what's going on in that camp lately do you think?

As long as I know, the band toured for their 40th Anniversary between 2010-2011, without Hodgson, of course. That is the last information that their official website gave to the fans in http://supertramp.com/ i think that maybe Rick Davies has retired from music, but I really don`t know.

They'll probably reunite for the 50th anniversary. Roger Hodgson will start an american tour next week though.

Did they not retire, as a band, quite a while ago? This shouldn't be surprising, given the fact that Supertramp started out as a band in the 1960s, so the original members would be in their late 60s - early 70s.

im just noting this because i feel like this wasn't announced officially, and no other kind of news outside of Hodgson is coming from that camp. i am just worried that's all.

Davies has nothing to prove, now he prefers to play late night blues/jazz with his mates. There must be nothing worse than constantly being asked if he would collaborate again with Hodgson. Enough to put anyone off music I think Davies like Roland Orzabal of Tears For Fears fame did some incredible stuff on their own. Not dismissing Hodgson's importance up to Famous Last Words though.

They sort of just 'died' after Breakfast In America. That and Crime Of The Century are so good that its understandable they couldn't retain that magnitude of creative power. I can't be the only one who heard 'Its Raining Again' and struggled to take them seriously from that point.

^ I really like 'Brother Where You Bound', it's much better than 'Famous Last Words'.

Ol' Roger went on the road solo with his son, and apparently he never looked back.

For me Even In The Quietest Moments and Breakfast were the two best....but I have never been a big fan and always thought of them as prog lite. There was always some 'gravitas' or something missing for me.

^ Yeah and that is a happy ending too. I think Supertramp's last two studio albums, Slow Motion and Somethings Never Change were even better than Brother Where You Bound. Also great tight band playing live in the 2000's.

Breakfast In America was relative schlock. It should have been their last album (most go out with their weakest).
