Agreed on Hackett, 'Spectral Mornings;' and, Bruford, 'One of a Kind.' I would also add Mike Rutherford, 'Smallcreep's Day,' though purists might say it is more proto-prog than prog. In that vein, I have always liked Zeppelin, 'In Through the Out Door,' as they really allowed JP Jones to shine on his synth keyboard work. Also, the haunting guitar-opener-through-feedback-loops on "In the Evening" indicates that Zep might have been ready to move into some sort of prog-metal category had Bonham lived on into the '80s...

Hey Pat - haven't you heard Heldon's Stand By? Fantastic album with some Magma folks joining in.
It's funny, I just realised that 4 of my most played records EVER were released in 79: Heldon - Stand By David Bowie - Lodger Tangerine Dream - Force Majeure Floyd - The Wall

The ones in bold were both once very important to so I guess hould have included them myself. Perhaps I should spin Force Majeure later today and see how it holds up.
...and Guldbamsen. I stumbled over the 1978-re-relase of Fluence cheap enough to buy uneard so now I'll finally get to hear it (you reccomended it once) |
Sorry Saper, I completely missed this at the time. Cool you found it though - I'd imagine it is pretty hard to come by these days. I ran across it much like you did actually: used and all alone in some ghastly corner of an old beat down vinyl shop. Good times.

Wait a minute. I wanted to add Smallcreep's Day to my list, but when I checked it out it was apparently released in February 1980. Is this wrong? If so, I'll add it to my list too.
