Listened to it for the first time today thanks to this thread. I like it because its more cohesive than anything else I've heard from him. I like the electronic sound which reminds me a bit of Alan Parson's A Valid Path which was also 'cutting edge'. Like everything by PG it will be a long time before I know whether I really love it.

^Glad you enjoyed Up, Richard. I really like the instrumentation on this one, but as I said, the lyrics are very dark this time around.

Everyone keeps calling the lyrics and sound dark. While this is true, that is not all of it.
For me, the musical and lyrical aspects that evoke darkness are contrasted by the overcoming of it.
To me, Up isn't about dwelling in the darkness, but rather escaping it and dealing with it, so it is natural that there are so many of these dark themes being thrown around - i think you guys are just missing the sparse light that comes through every so often.

^No ones missing the point dear boy, or Gabriel wouldn't have called the album UP, as opposed to....well, you know.

^No problem. These types of comments are usually out of context.

I think Up is among PG's best albums along with Security and "Melt." I felt he lost some steam on Us - it just seems to lack some of the energy and conviction of his other releases. Up, to me, was a very pleasing return to full form. Now that 12 years have passed, I expect that this is the last full-out Peter Gabriel album with which we will be graced.

Not the biggest PG solo fan. But his "UP" concert here was truly stunning. Maybe in my top 20 of concerts I've witnessed.
