Topic: Derek Shulman on bass credits Posted: November 27 2014 at 05:38 |
Just Wonder if the songs where Ray Shulman plays violin/fiddle, is it Derek who takes over the bass in studio like on the song Black Cat?

In the studio a lot of the instruments were probably overdubbed so Ray probably played many instruments.

There's a few where Derek mans the bass, Funny Ways is (suspectedly) one of these (he plays the bass on the live footage anyways, whilst Ray is on violin).... The entire band are multi-instrumentalists, so it really is a mash-up of who plays what on whatever track. INCREDIBLE band, all the way......

There was a rumor of one show where their encore was a musical chairs thing ... they all played bass, guitar, drums and what not ... I have no idea which piece it was but I can imagine it was a long piece from one album in particular that I love!

^ Could be the Octopus Medley. They blended several tracks off the classic album into a 15 minute piece.

thats so cool to play, i also have followed the House the Street the Room (or whatever the title is), and the Moon is Down, so many empotinal and enigmatic or cinematic bass lines back to question, as most bands wanted (in the 70s) dynamic sound on record mostlybecouse the Tech of that time, worked best that way, maybe when Ray play fiddle, they Derek strap on the bass so that they diud not loose the drive of the song, spessialy on songs like Plain Truth and Black Cat.
