Hello :)

I am new on the site and just registered here. My name is Mark, 26 yrs old from Austria.

Progressive Rocks is a new terrain for me, I haven’t listened to prog very much in the past.

I started listening to Zappa about a year ago.

One Size Fits It All was my first album.I noticed it in record store during a visit in LA and i thought “Let´s give it a try” , now I own about 20 of his albums.

Before listening to Zappa I was very much into Bands like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles (their later output), The Who and Queen. (I still like the mentioned, of course)

But then I often found links from Zappa-Websites  to Prog-Sites so i came from that direction.

I checked out some of the album reviews and stuff on the internet because i wanted to know which bands / albums would be well worth the buy for a start if you like :)

I bought the following besindes other stuff:

Yessongs

Yes Tales from Topographic Oceans

Genesis Trespass

Genesis Nursery Cryme

Genesis Foxtrot

ELP Trilogy

ELP Brain Salad Surgery

KC Larks' Tongues in Aspic

KC Red

I already checked out “Brain Salad Surgery” and both of the mentioned King Crimson albums.

I gave them all a headphone listen and all of the really blew me away.

I was really like exploring something new. I will do album reviews on the main site a little bit later to share my thoughts about the albums.

All in all I have say thanks to Zappa´s 60´s 70´s output and his diverse and complex arrangements which linked me to explore prog rock finally. Of course FZ is already something different haha. We all know.

So I just started with these albums. I am sure these will not be the last

Best Wishes from Austria

Welcome!

If you like Zappa, you should check out the other Avant-Prog bands:

Don't mind Snow Dog, they just haven't invented humour in Wales yet
