Driven by long-term collaborators Phil McCourt and Alex O’Toole, Captain Kickarse and the Awesomes are at the forefront of Sydney’s heaving independent underground. After a long period of inaction, the band has finally returned refreshed and renewed with their debut full length album Grim Repercussions, released through Birds Robe Records, with a launch gig at Sydney’s Spectrum, Fri 20th Feb 2015.

After parting ways with their previous bass player, the pair have weaved a vast array of influences and musical styles into a confronting and creative debut effort, rife with their signature rhythmic complexities and explosive energy. Engaging Birds Robe label-mate Alex Wilson (from Sydney post-rock heavyweights sleepmakeswaves) to lay down bass tracks in the studio, the self produced record shows the band at the top of their game; a relentless yet highly danceable example of musical technicality.
Now joined on stage by bassist Simeon Bartholomew (SEIMS, Godswounds), the band are officially back on the scene to tour new material and some old favourites across the country in support of the new record.

The debut album is eagerly awaited, some would say overdue. The record follows their critically appraised 2009 EP ‘Falsimiles From The Facts Machine’ which - after a sell-out launch at an over-capacity Excelsior Hotel - was widely picked up by community radio (FBi and 2SER) and performed onstage during national headline club tours and at festivals. It’s success saw Captain Kickarse become finalists in the 2010 Musicoz awards, feature in the top ten of Triple J Unearthed and being handpicked to support Japanese cult legend Tatsuya Yoshida on his “RUINS-ALONE” Australian tour.

They sound like '90s math rock. I'll let my team evaluate them.
