Tio Carne es muy bueno.

I usually cite it as my favorite from FZ, along with Lumpy Gravy.

Sooo many Zappa albums to enjoy, sooo many are superb, this is one of them, perhaps the most eclectic and 'special' album for my liking. A truly solid album end-to-end.
Tracks that are really outstanding for me (apart from most of them) :
Nine Types Of Industrial Pollution
The Uncle Meat Variations
Mr. Green Genes
The Air
Project X
Cruising For Burgers
King Kong (entire suite)
........with the amusing Suzi Creamcheese monologues peppered throughout.
Just an AMAZING album - such a cauldron of Progressive stylings and variations ;   Avante, Doo-Wop, Jazz, Humour, Psych.........lots of complexity. And it all works

My personal 5-star Zappa/Mothers albums are

Absolutely Free
We're Only in it for the Money
Uncle Meat
Studio Tan

I think Uncle Meat and Studio Tan are the ultimate testaments to Frank's depth as a composer and producer.

Wasn't this originally meant as the soundtrack to a film that was never finished? I remember reading that the film footage was included as a bonus DVD on one edition of the album, but I'm not sure... maybe I'm getting it confused with 200 Motels where Frank finally got his wish to branch out into filmmaking.

For the record I haven't seen 200 Motels, but apparently a lot of people really don't like it.

Didn't 'get into'  Uncle Meat until some years after it came out....not my favorite Zappa but some really   nice things on it but also some that don't work for me.

Pretty much!

The album is a mess... A beautiful mess.

One thing I don't like is how they chucked those bonus tracks in between the original side 3 and 4 on the Rykodisc remaster CD. Easy fix though, just take those tracks out and put it all onto one CD. Still, they could have put those tracks at the end. I mean really. Dead

It's good, but there are much better albums in Zappa's career.

^Agreed. I'm just gauging his early output.

A landmark album in his discog, and a highly excellent one at that.
