I first heard this unique album in the late 80s. I'm not sure who they are or what they are.

I am listening to "Bedlam" now. Might give a review later.
Mix of political statement, soundcollages, and humour. One of those very rare things: a CANADIAN exploito "psych" lp on a budget label. Exploito-psych is a milieu that suits me and one I am very familiar with. Crazy People was a johnny Kitchen project most likely. Others he made were Victims of Circumstance (or is it Consequence?) and the Blues Train lp (which I am still looking for). Session men ,one would think. Other North American psych-novelty effects records of this early period that one should look into would be The Mesmerizing Eye and Unfolding. |

Okay. It is less than 30 minute lp and Ive heard it all now.
(As I am on dial-up, I have no idea what you posted in that video/sound?? clip.) I was wrong about the political commentary - there is none. Also, if any session men were used at all, its only in a three/four minute organ bit at the very beginning on the "Parade of Crazy People" - or something like that track - not that there are any distinct tracks here: everything runs together. After 10 minutes, this soundcollage ( think "Revolution No. 9" with Wildman Fisher's voice coming in and out) gets quickly tiresome. In the true spirit of shady exploito production its a wonder they did not get sued at some point for copyright - everything is sampled, from jazz, to classical to Beach Boys-like pop, to Winchester Cathedral to Camp Town Races done on jew'sharp! Soundeffects thrown in with no rhyme or reason. Basically a sonic mess. |
