Had to go with Simon.....more quality albums and songs over the years  than Argent ...imho a true singer/songwriter.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

Paul Simon definitely.
I remember the first time Homeward Bound was played on the radio here in L.A.
The DJ on KRLA played it three times in a row because he thought it was the best
song he had heard in years.
That was the first of many "best songs".

Paul Simon by a long shot.  Immensely gifted, better than Dylan in my book.  Rod Argent is a great craftsman but simply not in the same league.  There Goes Rhymin' Simon (pretty much the whole album), America, the Boxer...the list is very long.

Count me in for Rod's contribution to music. And he's superb on keys. I never got into, nor understood why PS is hailed so greatly. I have his Graceland album (in the garage) and though it has great musicians/performances (the bassist is a knockout) - it strikes me as too mainstream Pop, and nothing that really shakes my world. Some things were just not meant for me.........

From a songwriting perspective, I wouldn't even put the great Paul Simon and Rod Argent in the same sentence....

I know this is a prog forum, but as a singer/songwriter, Simon is up there with the best of all times.  And I'm including Dylan, Lennon et al.

^ Of course! But I reach more often for Argent's masterpiece than any Simon & Garfunkel record or Graceland, just out of personal preference.

^For me, the attraction is about equal as I have to be in the mood for both, But based on his body of work, I went Simon. And the fact that he always seems to be a guest on SNL! LOL
