 Topic: Guide to Polish prog

Hi there,
I’m a prog rock fan and a music journalist from Poland. Currently I'm working on a comprehensive guide to Polish vintage rock and prog music. It will be written in English and will include 3 chapters: 1st devoted to 70s psycho, prog, blues and hardrock albums (for ex. Niemen, SBB, Breakout, Klan, Grechuta etc), 2nd about Polish fusion (for ex. Urbaniak, Laboratorium,Extra Ball, Ossian) and 3rd about neo prog and prog metal stuff (Riverside, Collage, Quidam among others ). Every album will be not only reviewed, but also all its vinyl and CD reissues will be described regarding the sound quality, collectors value etc. My question is simple: do you think – dear PA users- that prog fans and collectors outside Poland really need such book? Would you buy it? I have to do a little "market research"  before signing a contract with my publisher... Thanks for your answers! Jarek

I probably would. My interest in Polish prog rock (and I am a beginner in this area) is partly due to the music and partly because I am a fourth-generation Polish-American (Irish, English, Scottish, and German too). My great-grandfather was born in 1888 in the small village of Borek Wielki in the former Austrian province of Galicia which was returned to Poland following World War I. So it's not only an interest in Polish prog rock, but it is also a "cultural/heritage" thing that interests me as well. I hope you have luck in getting it published.

I think it's interesting. I would buy it for reasonable price.
By the way, are Skaldowie prog enough to be included?

^ They should definitely be included. If only for "Krywań, Krywań..." which is one of the best Polish Prog albums. A tak poza tym, to miło cię poznać Jarku. Pozdrowienia z Warszawy i powodzenia!  Bartek

Definately! I have traveled through Poland extensively three times and fell in love with that country. I have really enjoyed the few prog rock bands i've heard from there and all of Eastern Europe for that matter, so you better believe we are interesested in the musical history of your country! Yes I really like the music from Poland. Some of my favourites are Riverside, Lunatic Soul, Quidam, Votum, Collage, Believe, Millenium and Satellite.

Nothing much in Poland really stands out.
I don't believe a book is warranted.
Skaldowie - Krywan,Krywan is probably the best prog. Sounding like The Nice in places

Then you have the fusion ,much of which , like Labratorium, is too jazzy. Same as with Russia.
