Is for you Neal Morse, Transatlantic, Flower Kings all in the same category, I wonder? Just being curious...

I'm the same as micky, throw in Spocks Beard, I just don't connect with that stuff at all, I feel I'd be a huge IQ fan if they were just instrumental

In the case of IQ: I was a big fan until, let's say, Ever, but I lost them a bit afterwards because they didn't seem to develop themselves anymore, at least I didn't hear it.

I was subscriber to a Dutch prog magazine, and some day, one of those free cd's they gave away, had music from Kaipa, The Tangent, Neal Morse, Dream Theater and some others and it occurred to me that all the bands seemed to be variations on one theme, whereas the 1970's classic bands like Yes, Genesis, Crimson, Van der Graaf etc. all sounded very different from each other.
I'm sure that that also was a reason why I turned a bit away from modern prog.

Once again, I'm grateful for the modern polls, surprised that prog is much more diverse these days than I expected.

In truth Marcel.. far more diverse than I thought myself. I sure as hell didn't know Norway had such a vibrant scene.  A lot of people helped out with selecting the albums. Mainly with the moderns. It is SUCH a diverse and vast realm of progressiive now. Who knows it all. Those the genre specialists really stepped forward and helped.   I knew going in this was going to be a giant discovery part. Unlike the classics where we own upwards of 90% of them and had heard nearly all the rest,  I think we owned maybe.. a quarter of them, heard perhaps another quarter which left roughly half that I had never heard, many from artists I had never heard of.  It sort of was meant for everyone, but even if no one decided to play along... I was taking the opportunity to explore and find some great stuff that I knew I had missed. First in being so narrowly focused as I was when with the genre teams, then later as I pretty much forgot about prog rock other than a couple of weekends a year when Raff and I would go to see live shows.

The thing being even then, which was a clue as to this contest, many of the bands we saw live in 'prog contexts' mainly at the Orion and Progday were not even remotel close to being considered tradtional prog. There is a vast scene out there that bears little resemblance to 70's prog rock or little internal identification with any kind of prog rock scene. They are just doing their thing.. just like it was back in the day man Cool

Hahahahahaha. I'm not even going to grace the others with a vote. The Mars Volta. My favorite band.
The greatest collection of musicians since Yes or Rush.

Marcel, Speaking of IQ, you may want to give 'The Road of Bones' a whirl if you haven't.  I pretty much put the run of albums from Ever to Dark Matter as variations on the same theme.  Frequency was different but still wasn't great.  In my mind, The Road of Bones was the best album that they've ever released and is a huge success in my mind.  I lobbied hard for that one to be included in this tournament.

Okay, thanks, sounds like good news! Gotta check that album out.
But they included Frequency in this tournament instead of Road Of Bones.

I didn't win the lobby.  :)  I was just saying I think it's a better album, a lot of people had input into the albums that were chosen for the poll and I feel that I had a positive impact on the choices even if Frequency wasn't my choice for IQ.

The reason why The Road of Bones was not included is its release date. We decided to leave out any albums released in 2014, because they were still too recent to have been properly digested, so to speak. This is why other highly-rated albums - such as Ut Gret's Ancestor's Tale and Knifeworld's The Unraveling - were not included either.

Going to hold my vote just in case either Muse or Miriodor has a chance of catching Morse.

Miriodor baby... it is our duty, each and every one of us of good tastes,  to see that Morse album does NOT make it to the 2nd round LOL

Neal Morse, ?.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

De-Loused (which I love) does not need any boost, and in any case I would have voted for one of my favourite albums of the past 15 years - Miriodor's sublime Avanti!. Unfortunately, it seems that my vote won't be enough to see the title translate into reality (avanti means "forward" in Italian). Losing to Neal Morse... grrrAngry!
