Not lyrically, but musically. I've been listening to a lot of The Enid and they seem to have this mood down so well. Just feels so dreamy, so romantic. The kind of music I'd play on a night in with my lover. Or alone, like right now. Maybe the right description is mood music... but not something like Schulze or Tangerine Dream. Something with a lot of obvious melody. The symphonic sound helps, but not required. Anybody know if I'm missing out on anything here or am I clutching at straws with this description? The music can have lyrics, but the music itself needs to set the mood.

That sounds like a lot of Italian Prog Smile A few examples:
Latte e Miele, New Trolls, etc...

I consider some Renaissance tracks romantic, but I guess you know them well Tongue

Rayuela is some Argentinian prog that may be right up your alley. Most of their sole album is jazz fusion or folk influenced but the last song, Vendre Con El Tiempo, is an absolute romance powerhouse of a track.

Jon Anderson's classically-influenced album Change We Must.

In sticking with the Argentina theme, I'd also recommend MIA. "Transparencias" and "Cornonstipicum" are both excellent (mostly) instrumental albums with some highly romantic moments.

I just got Anathema's last album, and it would seem to me it sounds very romantic. However, so far it's the only one from them I know, so I don't know if it's a common factor on their music.

Novalis is one I need the check out. Been on the list since sometime last year, another reason they need to go near the top.

Never knew Argentina had a prog scene in the 70s. Definitely something to keep in mind. I'll give a listen to some of those albums tonight.

Mike Oldfield's Ommadawn and Incantations.

My apologies if you're already familiar with the albums, but I didn't see any Oldfield ratings on your profile. A lot of his music could be described as romantic, but he also tends to change moods often.

Try Springsong (2002) ans Summereve (2011) by Italian band Hostsonaten. Beautiful, symphonic, melodic prog.

Harmonium are another obvious choice. Si On Avait (1975) and L'Heptade (1976) are adorable.

Probably the most romantic Portuguese Prog track.

Ommadawn is another one I've been meaning to check out. Thanks for the suggestion. My profile page doesn't have too many ratings as I'm trying not to clutter to with only ratings (which it already is) so the reviews are more visible.

Holderlin and Camel very much come to mind, some bits of Focus (Focus 3) and certainly some of Novalis. Quite a few bands like BJH and Procul harum etc have a 'romantic' sound to my ears.

Presumably both women and men can 'get laid' so.. try telling 50% of our population its because they have no penis! I would put some sort of winky face emoticon in here but cant get it to work...  perhaps you need a penis for that too.. 'laughy face'....

The Genesis ballad machine.....very romantic stuff.  Your Own Special Way and Follow You, Follow Me are uber-romatic, then the 80s and Phil took that breakup music he did on Duke to the next level....romantic spices on nearly everything they did.
I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....
