Before I got into Progressive Rock I was really into Alternative Rock , and one of the bands that got me into Prog was Radiohead and they are an Alternative Rock band as well as being Progressive .
Some other examples would be Bjork Mr Bungle Porcupine Tree ( Stupid Dream era ) Primus Can you tell me any others It dose not matter if they are Heavy Alternative or Indie , as long as they are Progressive . |

Tool is kind of an alternative rock/alternative metal band.
Muse might fit the bill. The Mars Volta are sort of a heavy alternative heavy prog band. |

Big Wreck's first and most recent albums ('In loving Memory of' and 'Ghosts') might be along the lines you're looking for. They're of debatable progginess but you might like them anyway. Also I'd post a video of one of their songs but they're often blocked in random countries. Try The Oaf, Overemphasizing and A Place to Call Home though if you can.

THE PINEAPPLE THIEF. A blend of the Porcupine Tree harder sound, with clever, Radiohead styled alt. experiments.

Muse and Radiohead are the best examples I think. Tool maybe as well, but they're more hard rock/metal than alternative.

American Football is like alternative with some mathrock drums and guitars. They aren't on here but I think that will be the closest you will get.

Most of the stuff called "prog rock" in alternative rock circles is IMHO only marginally connected to prog, I think. Sure, prog bands are often cited as sources of influence, but that makes them prog only to the degree English is a Romance language: strongly influenced but not really. Meanwhile, actual prog continues to be almost totally ignored (or dismissed as overblown and pompous) by the alternative rock press.

Hi,
I can not listen to music by titles and genres at all ... I have no idea where they fit ... and I don't want them to fit anywhere. It's about the experience of listening to it inside ... and how it grabs me, or you, but one piece is not going to grab you, or me, because it is called this or that ... with the exception of the elusive "dark" titles, that everyone confuses with "evil".
|
|
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
