OK this is kind of a different thread, but I'll get right to the point.
I think Refugees is an amazing song, but ruined by bad production. The only version I know and listen to, is the one off of At Least We Can Wave to Each Other. Am I the only one who hears the high pitched feedback squeals when Peter Hammill sings? It's almost so bad that the beautiful song is not listenable. I was just wondering if there's a better STUDIO version, or remaster of the album that I didn't know of.

I just played the song off of you tube (I'm at work...) from the original album....it doesn't sound like feedback 'squeals' to me , but then I think most of Hammill's singing leaves much to be desired anyway.

That depends - there are 2 versions - one runs for 5:20 (I have this on a comp. album entitled Repeat Performance) and the other, superior version runs to about 6 1/2 minutes, which I have on Least We Can Do (pink scroll Charisma release). The same goes for White Hammer - more reverb and the cornet is mixed differently (or is a total different take ?) Don't know about the squeal - I must check them both out.

I do love this song, and I hear nothing wrong with it, production or performance-wise. I may check it out later on again, but it sounds just fine to me.

Yes, I agree with you. Hammill's singing is not really my cup of tea.

H to He is worth it ... and a great primer of what PH will become and do. And it has Robert Fripp on it, too! I specially like "House With No Door" but there are other great pieces in that album!
