You decided on L.A.?   Strangely enough I think you may like it-- I mean it sucks but it's kinda fun and full of struggling musicians.

man I hated L.A. Thumbs Down Almost as much I did Biloxi Missisippi. At least a stroll along the beach won't find you skipping over dead animals LOL

I opted for LA because New York City is far. Not sure about my plan of moving all of my equipment to NYC. What am I gonna do, U-Haul all of it for 40 hours?

It is true that I don't know anyone in Los Angeles, but at least once I find a job there, U-Haul my stuff to a public storage, pay it off monthly, start performing my material live, things might  normalize. I don't have other choice. What am I gonna do, spend the rest of my life in Reno?

Where am I gonna live? A motel seems to be like the most obvious option. Like Dean said, perseverance is key.
