Sorry if he has already been mentionned, I did not see a topic about him.

For those who don't know Darren Lock, he's a progressive rock fan posting albums video reviews on Youtube for quite a long time now:

His reviews are often pertinent and humoristic. He also performs risky action scenes with his swiss knife, battling against overpriced prog music box-sets and decorticating their contents Big smile. This can save your money up. There are some TV shows series reviews on his channel and original compositions too.

Viewing his videos is quite recommended Smile

The guy's great. I love his vids despite having opposite views on modern prog.

Oh I love Darren! Been subscribed to him for months now! He has good opinions and can be very funny! But before you look into him, make sure that you know he doesn't like any American bands, he doesn't like Gentle Giant, most of Rush's career, and he hates ELO. Also, he occasionally calls Jethro Tull Jethro Dull

Oh yeah, watch his Love Beach review, it's hilarious!!!

Yes, I dip into Darren occasionally though makes very disparaging remarks about Steven Wilson. I know music is very subjective but he doesn't give the guy a chance!

Darren has given me some good memories. As you said, he likes to exaggerate and poke fun. I like hearing his often negative opinion of many popular prog artists like Frank Zappa, Gentle Giant and "Jethro Dull" LOL

Seems to spend all his time waffling on about the fanbase of bands and artists instead of the music and when he is talking about the music the word w**king does come up a lot and to stop people from sending rude messages the odd "it's not that I don't like this kind of music, I can appericate x and w but this doesn't do it for me" does come up too. His humor, even if a bit too hyperbolic and derivative of David Brent, makes me laugh alot! Should stick to the home-y coffee vids..

He's occasionally humorous but he does talk a lot of nonsense about King Crimson & Cardiacs. He can get a bit tedious.

He wasn't that wrong about Cardiacs imo... Would love to see him do Sing to God, that would be a corker of a review.

Yes, but Rolling Stone was the magazine that said in the 70's : "Remember, Tull rhymes with dull."

IIRC the L.A. Times used the same line in their review of the Passion Play tour back in '73.

He criticizes most of the music I love, so I don't even bother with him anymore.

To be kind, his tastes tend to be very idiosyncratic. After viewing a good one-third of his reviews, I couldn't pinpoint his key aesthetic principles beyond a base desire for koan-like perfection--songs that are technically- and structurally-daring, lyrically-imaginative, immaculately-produced and emotionally-involving with no hint of commercial interest or at the opposite extreme, self-involved navel-gazing. He's far less useful as a cultural barometer than, say, Lester Bangs, who, even at his most scathing, was both more entertaining and instructive.

Speak of the devil and he's sure to appear! Huzzah!

It is I, Darren, the Prog Review fellow.

Interesting to hear your thoughts. Sorry I cannot sometimes meet your lofty expectations. The reviews are meant to be entertainment - a mere distraction from your impending mortality. I don't have an agenda. I like what I like and I like what I know.

I don't cover King Crimson anymore, so you are safe to drop by. I would love to Sl*g off the Cardiacs some more but their fans are of the rabid variety who give me the heebie-jeebies... But maybe one day, eh? No, I am not Lester Bangs - he got paid for what he did. I just get the drippings of YouTube's nose - you pay peanuts, you get monkeys and then me. ;)

But big thanks to Mr Modrigue for speaking so kindly of me and promoting my channel. You are gentleman amongst men. I salute you!

Prog on!

Although I am a Tull fanatic, I do enjoy your JT reviews. Welcome, man.

Darren always said that he never goes on any forums, looks like only PA can make him change his mind...
