Maybe already on the to-add list, but a forum search saw only mentions by myself and one other user in the what-are-you-listening-to thread. Similar, at times, to other bands such as Beware of Safety, Flies Are Spies From Hell, God is an Astronaut, Halma, and especially Grails, Leech and Tangled Thoughts of Leaving. Often crossing the borders between postrock and spacerock. (the site doesn't like my spelling, but hyphenation is overrated so forgive my non-conformity). Three-man group from Manchester, UK. Output since about 2010 with 3 very fine full-lengths to their credit, those being Lupus, High Evolutionary and Spectral Domain. At least an equal number of ep's as well as some loose tracks on compilation discs. I believe that they are flourishing on bandcamp (https://deadseaapes.bandcamp.com/music) and they are also listed as discogs (https://www.discogs.com/artist/2530135-Dead-Sea-Apes). I hope that last link is kosher but anybody who's used that site as well as progarchives knows that this place is far superior. Best tracks (my faves) that I can provide as selling points include: The Unclosing Eye "https://www.youtube.com/embed/-n5oGX4Zgeo" spacerock Universal Interrogator "https://www.youtube.com/embed/Qwdec86zw_w" spacerock Something to Do With Death https://soundcloud.com/dead-sea-apes/04-something-to-do-with-death trippy postrock, not on youtube, apparently Wolf II "https://www.youtube.com/embed/vNLUCm5ffG4" spacerock Good starting points, but other good tracks include, for spacerock: Alejandro, Astral House, Bikini Atoll, Exoplanet, Knowledge and Converstion, My Eyes are Burnin' and My Feet are Meltin', Ruckstor Gondoliore (com.p-only release), Sixth Side of the Pentagon, Threads, True Believers, Turpentine, Wolf of the Bees and Wreck. Coronal is another good example of the trippy postrock mentioned, which I callously label 'spacepost' for use in my own silly records. Definitely a keeper and definitely some serious mixing skills by whoever is doing such. Good sound overall, but I notice a particularly cool ingredient with the drumming, which often parallels the dominant work of a band such as Das Raumpiloten, which I think shows up quite well in the first track mentioned--The Unclosing Eye. I'd even be willing to reach out and try to contact the band for any personals they'd want included if they get added, but I'm not sure how you usually do such things and I'm perfectly willing to pass that honour on to a more seasoned progarcher. Most important thing, in my view, is that they belong with us. Hopefully this reads okay; my embedding skills seem wanting. Edited by InstrupsychedeMental - April 27 2016 at 15:19 |
