I love gloomy post punk, probably my favorite sound after pastoral prog and crunchy grunge, it brings a smile to my mouth and a tear to the eye, bands like the Cure, Killing Joke, Bauhaus, Cameleon UK and so on bring such unique atmospheres to music, a sound that i feel is lost and forgotten, and needs to be revived.

so hurrray for gloomy post-punk.

Here, The Cure. So devilish, angsty, and yet driving.

Killing Joke's self-titled is far more competitive. Got to get that crunch.

probably a little suspect title for a poll, ass it aludes to murky night extravagancas, both allure to activities of which are connected to each other.

But they are also album titles, so it is leggit.

Okay, first of all, the obvious... I enjoy my Pornography at Night Time (nudge nudge wink wink hardy har har)

I voted both. Not a huge fan of either group but i am a fan of those albums.

Two excellent albums from the 80's. If I was being objective I would say 'Pornography' but I had too much fun jumping around like a lunatic to Night Time at the time so I'll vote KJ here.

Anyone else think the opening of the song 'Eighties' influenced Nirvana's 'Come as you are' somewhat? Go listen and tell me what you think.

Looks to have, just decided to go into a lower register for the latter part of the riff rather than the higher one on "Eighties". Nirvana were big fans of KJ after all.

Story goes that KJ may or may not have halfheartedly tried to sue Nirvana after the latter's manager was an ass to them, but that ended up going nowhere if it did. Grohl ended up making amends by drumming on a KJ album.

Killing Joke for me, I especially love the track "Europe" from that album.

The album after that, "Brighter Than A Thousand Suns", is great too.

I recommend masturbating to pornography during the night time...
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Pretty close. I'll give it to Night Time.

I hadn't heard that Damned track before.

BTATS was my favourite Kiling Joke album for some time. Night Time just about beats it for me these days. It was a good era for the band.
