Does anyone have any good suggestion on extreme progressive metal bands...

I'm thinking of such technical things as Necrophagist, Cryptopsy, and Psycroptic...if anyone here is into this type of thing.

I don't have many, but MESHUGGAH and GORGUTS are both outstanding. KRALLICE as well. I need to check more Extreme bands out, too.

I quite like Behold The Arctopus, Electro Quarterstaff and Spiral Architect, though I don't think the latter two really count as extreme (other than in the sense 'extremely technical').

Psyopus' album Ideas of Reference also has its moments.

The most extreme group I can think of is Encenethrakh:

I'm not sure if one is actually supposed to listen to them though, or whether they are just proving a point / having a laugh. One track should be enough for most.

^ Wow.......there's a point where something becomes just noise. Makes Arctopus sound like a pop band.........

^ Yeah, Encenethrakh is for people who wish the Arctopus would stop with all the soppy ballad numbers.

Both of them.

^^ Hey, I spun Horrorscension yesterday, it is an awesome album - repeated listens pays off. Nice item to have on vinyl too, the version I scored is a swirly brown marbled colour !! Being instrumental, is a finer point, I guess, but I'm getting used to growl vocals. I guess a 'clean' voice is too soft for this type of music, although Akerfeldt nailed it on both fronts. Gawd, I think I'm going to spin Ghost Reveries now.........
Duh, ninja'd by Finn............

^ Oh yeah, I like Horrorscension, though I only have the boring old CD.

Weasel's tune is my favourite I think.

^ Deluge of Sores - I don't have the CD handy but I think that's his only writing credit on the album.

Weas kicks arse, indeed!

Try GERYON - just bass / growl vocals, and drums. The rhythm section of KRALLICE only. Such a grand noise.

^ Hope you like what you hear....
.........I love the bass, so this was what captured my interest in the first place.........and this McMaster fellow comes across as a really cool dude in interview, reminds me so much of my good mate's brother........
I just wish I had the texts to the songs - I truly love the sound and instrumental proficiency of many of these 'Extreme' arrangements (as if Henry Cow wasn't enough) but really, I do enjoy to hear just how far a group of musicians take the technicality of their music, and, if it means extreme, then I want 'Extreme'. No matter how 'heavy'.............I like to think I've heard a fair amount but probably about 2.6 % really, if that. The main thing that detracts me from totally submersing myself within this sub-genre is the vocals. Hammill is as far as I love.

^^ .......the music is fantastic, the vocals not, I much prefer deeper growl vocals to these, witch-like shrieks, or better still, instrumental. I'll persist though.
