Lately I've been rating the albums I've listened to. I never thought to look at my reviews and ratings page until now. The pie divided up really shows where your musical tastes lie and where you need to broaden your horizons. Try it out. I rely a lot on reviews when I'm at the store trying to decide on buying an album or not.

I remember when Max put that on the site, I loved it.
I haven't looked at it in a long time but if you go by average ratings my top five sub-genres are:
Canterbury
Zeuhl
Rio/ Avant
Krautrock
Jazz
Which is a pretty fair evaluation I'd say of my favourite sub-genres.

If I go by the number of reviews it's quite different.
Jazz
Symphonic
Psychedelic
Eclectic
Prog-Metal

I think it's a case of there not being nearly the number of Zeuhl, Canterbury and Krautrock records out there compared to the others. Plus when I first got into Prog I really had narrow vision at first with a lot of Symphonic, Neo-Prog and Prog-Metal reviews.

   Question

Is this a comment?  A question?  A epiphanic confession?

If so, you could do better.   And wrong subforum; I'd put it in "Help Us Improve the Site", or maybe make it a poll.

If so, you could do better? Sorry my observation made you miss my point.

I agree as well, though unfortunately I have a difficulty deciphering what even my own ratings mean to me as a person, making it hard to use them as a source for what I should buy according to them. If that makes any sense.

Excellent point Mellotron Storm. That explains why my pie doesn't divide as diversely as I'd like. I've been trying to listen to and rate many different genres of prog but there is a very limited number of bands in some genres. Do you know if Max ever applied that algorithm to the complete list of all progarchives bands. I'd be interested to see how that breaks down.
