Three of the greatest albums of the past 15 years were released in 2009:
Miriodor - Avanti! Cheer-Accident - Fear Draws Misfortune
These two literally changed the way I think about music and reinvigorated my interest in music generally and 'difficult' music in particular. I adore both.
exactly... which is why Miriodor is my #1 pick of the year. That album more than anything.. even more than the cajoling of Uncle Ian and Auntie Raff really turned me onto that freaky RIO-avant sh*t you both enjoy so
Not that it is freaky of course...it was just a gateway album... and a damn great one.

I accidentally voted for Part the Second, forgetting Ga'an, which I wish I had voted for.
My favourites not in the poll from what I have are Miriodor's Avanti, Magma's E-Re, Afroskull's To Obscurity and Beyond, Aranis' Songs from Mirage, Present's Barbaro, Led Bib's Sensible Shoes, miRthkon's Vehicle and I liked Morglbl's Jazz for the Deaf and Osibisa's Osee Yee. For some reason the Cheer-Accident album never altogether connected with me at the time. I should listen again.
Since no-one mentioned this band or album before, but it's fun, rockin' energetic jazz/ funk/ horn rock.

Shame on me for leaving out one of my favourite albums of the past few years! I think I even posted a rave review of To Obscurity and Beyond here on PA. I really hope the band will produce another album. They seem to be still active, at least on the live front.

2009 was indeed a great year for prog, a very diverse pallate too. That is shown by the fact that of my top 20 for that year only 2 or 3 have been mentioned in this thread. One of the best years in recent times, prog music-wise.

BBT over Ga'an.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

Ga'an from the list as well but Astra "The Weirding" kicked this old man's butt as well as anything has in a long time. It really sounds like a classic from the early days of prog.
