Topic: Ride the Lightning VS Powerslave? Posted: November 05 2016 at 16:43 |
Your vote goes to which of these big 80's metal albums? My pick is Powerslave hands down, but it's kinda close.

Both are good albums, but I've been listening to Powerslave a lot lately, from start to finish.

As much as I love Powerslave, I have to give the vote to Ride the Lightning.

As much as I love Master, there's nothing that still sounds as heavy and energetically aggressive today like Ride the Lightning.

Neither bands do much for me, apart from a few slightly more oddball tracks. I vote Powerslave because of the title track and Rime of the ancient mariner

Ride easily.
Powerslave not a favourite, really. Rime of the Ancient Mariner is such a snoozer.

Yup. Seriously crushing riffage in there - the title track, Creeping Death, Fight fire.

While Ride The Lightning is one the best albums of both Metallica and heavy metal, Powerslave is more coherent and nothing but perfect songs. On RTL tracklist, alas! there are two weak songs ("Trapped Under Ice" and "Escape") which damage the quality of this LP.

My vote went to Ride The Lightning. Even though I like both albums I can't listen to Maiden's vocals for very long. I have that issue with many hard rock/metal/stoner vocals which is why I listen to so many instrumental albums. My preferred Metallica period is from Kill Em' All (1983) to Metallica (1991) and even though RTL is not the best of that period I still chose it over Powerslave. To be fair I listened to both albums yesterday after seeing this poll.
