I am surprised to find out that Power Metal has a large degree of acceptance on this site. Anybody here heard Stratovarius latest releases? They sacked their previous guitarist and brought one that is more in to prog metal. I say they are defenetely for consideration.
Personally Stratovarius is the only Power Metal band that I could ever stand (Most of this genre is unbearable to my ears). But if bands like Rhapsody, Blind Guardian, and Nightwish (Seriously, how in the hell...?) got in here I donīt se how they canīt.

Please use the search button in the forums to find out about Nightwish (long story that I don't want to go into detail) and previous threads on Stratovarius.

Perhaps I should have added some samples from each of the last 4 albums with this new player. Apologies.

I'd suggest George Ligeti for RIO and Carl Orff for Zeuhl

They've been rejected again and again ... a long history they have actually.

And this thread's got moved to General Music Discussions.

Yes but when was the last time they rejected them? was it this year or in 2007? The albums Iīm talking about are post 2009.

The last time someone attempted a suggestion on this band was six years ago. The thread was revived in March 2013. This is the seventh thread launched on the subject.

I previously felt that Stratovarius belonged here...but it was explained to me that they were symphonic metal not progressive metal.  Given that I simplistically consider progressive rock to be generally either the merging of rock with symphony or rock with jazz this explanation baffled me since symphonic metal is the combination of metal with symphony, but I guess, that understandably that is not enough to qualify as progressive metal.  I just shrugged my shoulders and moved on.

Well the fact that OP was a fanboy didnīt help. I defenetely think their new stuff belongs here, then their first few albums were sort of progressive until they dwelved in to your average obnoxious poppy happy power metal band. I just tought that if some Power Metal bands were allowed in the archives they should defenetely be here too, as far as Iīm concerned they are the Power Metal band that is closest to having "Prog Metal" sound.

Stratovarius is a noticeably less proggy band than Blind Guardian and Nightwish. Here's the thing, when I hear prog metal, or prog-related metal, there's a "bell" inside me that "rings".  Blind Guardian and Nightwish ring that bell.  Mercyful Fate and Iron Maiden ring that bell. Kamelot and Rhapsody, yeah, no doubt.

Stratovarius most definitely does not ring that bell.

I can totally relate to this. Far less cheesy than most. They're 1 of only 2 power metal bands I listen to in any significant quantity (the other being Gothic Knights, check them out). Well, maybe 3 as some people call Battle Beast a power metal band.

I can't really say I think "prog" when I listen to Strato though. Maybe they'll get there in another 20 years!
