Lets try get some music that is played by a band that might not be Progressive but has something to it that is unique or Progressive, for example if the song suddenly changes in rythem or scale unexpectedly, or simply has a chord progression that is unlike the rest of the bands material,
or bands that might play classic rock but have skill and musical craftsmanship that bump them up to another level.

For example:

the outro although repetitive for the most part has a very progressive vibe to it and the guitar is masterful IMO
creedence are a non-prog band that i love in general but the length and improv on this piece is special

That is indeed my absolute favourite Creedence tuneClap
While rather clumsy in it's build-up the outro more than makes up for it. Simple yes. Repetitive yes. Powerful? Oh my word. I still get goosebumps.
I think a lot of today's musicians could learn a lot from the 'vibe' or 'energy' that this particular piece exudes in that it purports great scope and width in its sound yet does so with sparsely used instrumentation...done in a way that relies on dynamics and feel. It's of course like the age old warhorse musician's jive 'you have to learn to play with the "silences"' which basically just is code for understanding subtlety and how one creates SPACE in music - how you make it three-dimensional without having to resort to all kinds of studiotrickery. That is at least to me one of the most pivotal things about great music regardless of genre. One I picked up from listening to the sounds of the late sixties.

When mentioning Alice Cooper, the usual prog-ish tune people refer to is "Halo of Flies", and rightly so.

I was listening to the School's Out album the other day, and I found the song "My Stars" as being proggy, relatively-speaking.

Shawn Phillips - Second Contribution - basically the whole album, but I would single out the Ballad of Casey Deis (I think that was the title). Also The Wailing Wall. I forget which album that was, but I think it was off of Rumpelstiltskin's Resolve.

I might add that, though I hesitate advocating the slippery slope, if Folk Rock groups like Lindisfarne are considered Prog, then I see no reason not to add Shawn Phillips.

Don't know how prog-ish that song is, but I love it.

What thinks you of this?  Not necessarily proggy just because its 8 minutes long with a 4 minute instrumental intro.  But I like it.

Another long song candidate.  This time the instrumental side is on the back end.

One of my favorite CCR tunes. I always pictured Clint Eastwood's "Man With No Name" riding up to the middle part of this song.
