Topic: Headstone - British prog band from 70's Posted: September 27 2017 at 21:44 |
Not sure what sub-style exactly they belong: Heavy Prog? Eclectic or Crossover...? Please check them out. Thanks!

I realise the picture PA is painting of itself when you as a new member get shot down with every new suggestion you make Vad, but truth be told; you will have trouble finding any other PA member who'll hear this as prog rock (although you may persuade Kingsnake). I too hear Steve Miller Band and other such melodic blues rock bands.

No problem guys. I am not insisting on that. I was not sure, now I am. Case closed. Thank you all!

Hey no problem. I think a lot of new members get a little confused about the whole concept of prog rock when they see Kate Bush, Björk, The Beatles and Journey listed. All of the mentioned though reside in the prog related sub which is caracterised by NOT being prog but being vital/instrumental to the evolution of said genre. Truth be told I personally think we should do ourselves a favour and just scrap the entire sub as it used to stand for 'sorta proggish sounding artists' which in turn meant that a lot of artists were included that we today never would have passed through the gates. But hey ho it is what it is and by scrapping a whole sub one also erases all it's reviews, which would be a disgrace to the kind folks who submitted them. Anyway I hope all this mumbojumbo doesn't scare you off the site. For the most part we just chit chat about new, classic, obscure and endlessly exciting music - preferably with a few endearing discussions about what actually constitutes prog rock to spice things up nicely

Thanks for this clarification, dude. I was just thinking the same way as yourself. BTW, I was going to ask a question regarding The Zombies to be included in PA for proto-prog/psychedelic/space rock, but now... I do not think it would be a good idea. Thanks again!

Thanks for being so understanding. As for The Zombies, that would be a no, I'm afraid. A great band, extremely active in the fantastic British R&B explosion of the sixties, but not remotely suitable for our site, in spite of the luminaries who went on to figure in the genre.

Been listening to this album since 1981, and have always considered it progressive rock.

I just think this is a perfect example of an Art rock band with some fusion and folk elements not being progressive in any way, IMHO.
