Singer and frontman of Tom Petty and the Hearbreakers and key member of Traveling Wildberrys, you will be missed. A genuine american icon and a standard for rock singing owerall. Very shocking news - will sherrish your herritage with playing some of your albums.

I just heard this news.  Quite a shock to me.  His music is mostly anti-prog, but I've always been a pretty big fan.  Had the pleasure of seeing him play live once and it was a fantastic show.

I've only recently started to warm up to him. I guess I was never much into the heartland rock thing except for maybe Bruce Springsteen. Anyway, very sad news. My favorite track by him was always don't come around here no more because I thought it was his most proggiest. ANyway, RIP Tom. A real classic rock icon for sure.

he was also true to the free spirit of rock and the legacy of Beatles and very close friend to Jeff Lynne.

He's still fighting but they took out the respirator, don't look good at all.

Hold on, brother.

According to wikipedia he passed away. I don't think his death has been announced prematurely but I suppose it's possible.

I just read that they took him off of life support but as of 4 PM he was still alive.  They expect him to live through the day but the prognosis is not good.

^ I suppose this is the track that needs to be played at the moment. I don't think it's ahead of its time though (released in 1989), as I personally think it sounds like it's from the 70s. Wrong place and time to argue about that anyway.

RIP to one of the great pop rock artist and may his final moments be spent with love.

It's official, he is gone.  Very sad and not old by today's standards.  Always was fond of the song "I'm the Night Watchman", at about the time of that song that was my job full time while going to school full time.

He did many a battle against almighty record companies to retain his songs ownership and royalties, and won for the most part.

Thanks Tom for all the great songwriting!

Ok, it was announced prematurely apparently but it's official now. RIP Tom. I don't think most people who weren't fans realize just how important he is in the world of rock n roll.
