I posted yesterday that you should Google Styx's  Father OSA.Have you done that? I've had a partial song floating in my head for decades and I'd LOVE to know what it was so I can hear it again.I'll post that question soon.

hmm I like the BJH idea, and they used stuff besides Tron, like "Child of the Universe" with piano and synth.  Could be anything from their Polydor period in the 1970s.

speaking of Canadians, ever hear Walter Rossi?  Pretty good guitarist from Montreal who got some airplay there in the late 1970s

Nope, never heard of Walter Rossi.I always thought we had a pretty good radio station here.We really do, but I 'm figuring out that there's so much more music out there. Some of these cold days when I'm staying inside it's fun to just start anywhere on Youtube and then go off on tangents-you discover new music, and old vintage song's you'd forgotten about. Also, some of the musicians pop up in other bands and it gives their music new meaning.Lately I'm listening to slcr.tv-it's based here in St. Louis and they play everything.Might want to listen in. I still want to help Batphink find his song. It's a great feeling when you finally find it!

I think Progmatic is on to something. Just a shot in the dark, but listen to "Snows of Sahara, Part II" (I forget which Bruford album that is on). Perhaps THIS is what you are referring to? Big smile (BTW - if I am anywhere close to being right, don't try sending the $50.00 to me where I live along the Yangtze River in central China; send it to your favorite charity instead...)

Sound Chaser by Yes clicks off some of the items in your description; electric piano opening, frantic playing, there is a lead guitar solo in the middle but Steve Howe's tone is so different than Holdsworth's, and Anderson's voice is nothing like Wetton or Lake.

Hey- have you ruled out the band "Gypsy" ? They had songs on the radio starting in the early 70's.They are from Minneapolis, so I'm sure you Northerners likely heard of them. The singer had a good strong voice, and most of their songs had a good dose of organ music. Start with their first album-it was a double album and it was just called Gypsy.

It couldn't be "No Quarter" by Led Zeppelin, could it?

Gypsy.  I recently discovered this band.  They are pretty darn cool.  Well worth investigation by anyone interested enough to visit this website.

I can only describe it as an ascending chord progression on electric piano, which gradually adds, drums, bass, guitar and vocal.
The vocalist reminded me of either Cameron Hawkins of FM or John Wetton or Greg Lake type voice.
In the middle had an amazing Alan Holdsworth type lead solo.

IF you can lead me to this song I will PAY YOU I promise,I've tried everything,

Thanks for reading,

Batphink

Here's my suggestion: Nocturnal Flight by Flame Dream. It's from 1980, it's got the ascending chord progression on piano (though I'm not sure it's electric), more instruments joining in later and an electric guitar solo in the middle, though it's more restrained than you describe and doesn't sound like Holdsworth.
