Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
Gorguts - Obscura

These two stand out immediately to me, and the latter is the only comparable to the former.

Yeah, Trout is awesome! Never heard that other album, have to listen it. Have you listened Minutemen, the Pop Group, Pere Ubu, Red Krayola, Trumans Water, Thinking Fellers Union Local 282, Lemon Kittens, the Birthday Party or Sweetheart? They all have Beefheart-influences, although in Red Krayola it´s hard to say who took influences from whom, I really wouldn´t be suprised, if Beefheart had listened Krayola´s second album before composing Trout.

Ah, have to mention also excellent the Raincoats Odyshape-album!

The Gorguts album really gave birth to Avant-Tech-Death as we hear it today (I still insist that Pleiades’ Dust is the winner).
