Hi fellow proggers! Smile

Astral Bazaar from Finland here, presenting our first official release, Pictures Unrelated:

Pictures Unrelated

Link to album: https://astralbazaar.bandcamp.com/

We have been playing live shows somewhat actively since 2012 and released a few home-made demos during that time as well. Our official debut album, “Pictures Unrelated” was released March 23, 2018 in CD & digital format as well as in various streaming services. "Pictures Unrelated" is concept album based on the works of a certain famous painter, each song being linked thematically to a different work of his

Musically the album is mainly influenced by classic prog-rock as well as psychedelic rock, other influences include various types of world music and alternative rock. So I'm not sure if we are more fit for the psychedelic/space or crossover-prog category, you decide. Smile

Line-up & album info:

Koos Zevenhoven - Vocals

Lauri Loikkanen - Guitars, keyboards, percussion

Mikael Laaksonen - Guitars, saxophone

Pekka Lehtelä - Guitars

Jukka Sainio - Bass

Eetu Peltoluhta - Drums

Recorded and mixed by Aleksi Kosonen

Mastered by Joona Lukala

Album art by Eetu Peltoluhta

Any updates to the situation..? In regard to the sub-genre, I can hint that our next album would likely be heading even more towards the psychedelic/space -type prog, if that is in any way helpful for the decision. Smile

I just checked the charts and Astral Bazaar hasn't been added yet - probably they're still deciding where to put you. The time frame for these things is never very consistent because sometimes a band just gets swamped by other additions.

I've been meaning to give your first album a listen for a while now; hopefully, I'll be able to get to it sometime this week or next.

On an entirely unrelated note, I just noticed that you guys are from Espoo and thought I would mention that I've been to the city a few times, most recently for an internship last summer. I don't speak a lick of Finnish—it was very interesting.
I use they/them pronouns (feel free to ask me about this!)

Check out my music on my bandcamp!

Listening to it now. It's great stuff. Your choruses are really strong, and I particularly enjoy the way you guys incorporate odd time signatures without making them super obvious (e.g. the 7/8 in The Animation Hand is super smooth and seamless).

As for sub-genre, I'd say crossover based on this release; I definitely hear the world and alternative influences. Knowing that your next release is going to be even more in the psych/space style, I personally would want to hear it before making a decision.

Thanks for the comments! Smile Our next album will most likely take another year or two to be actually released (we're basically in the songwriting-phase now), but in the meantime we would be more than happy with the Crossover definition, and having our debut included under that sub-genre.
