Taking this to its logical conclusion, since all other comparisons have been exhausted.

Are you asking which dildo we prefer?
It's a bit like asking which is better, Spinal Tap or Spinal Tap Mark II (and those are quite different -- one being the jazz odyssey, but hopefully you'll get why). I'm sorry to bring up the dildo, but for those that don't know, which may be no one, the steely dan that inspired the band's name is a dildo from William S. Burroughs' novel Naked Lunch. That dildo was the Steely Dan III from Yokohama, which was a strap-on dildo as I recall, so I am likening this question to asking which steely dan do you prefer, say the Mark II or Mark III dildo? Sorry if this seems unnecessarily vulgar, but it is a literary reference, and Steely Dan did name themselves after a dildo as I would hope most literate, adult SD fans would know. By the way, I'd now like to make a Steely Dan vs. Soft Machine poll, as both names are Burroughs references. If I had the time, I would do a long poll including band names that are literary references. Edited by Logan - February 21 2019 at 12:20 |

I feel like I'm trapped in a jukebox playing "Do It Again" that also reads song titles as directions.

This is definitely the toughest one yet. Ok Steely Dan has the best first 7 albums ever, plus the solo Fagen stuff, slam dunk vote every time. But wait, the other band is Steely Dan also. I'm gonna have to think long and hard about this one.

Never liked Steely Dan. On the other hand, Steely Dan were one of the best recording artists of their time. So that's easy, no contest: Steely Dan. |

Wait a min now, why is the second Steely Dan one vote ahead of the first Steely Dan? What is special about them? I ended up voting for 'both' because I mean they're literally my two favorite bands.
